We have spent over a year designing a simple modern energy efficient home on a narrow urban lot in Denver, Colorado. It’s currently nearly complete.

I am a dad and an architect (currently working at Barker Rinker Seacat Architecture), with a deep interest in modern architecture and integrating materials and details that help build a solid well conceived end product.  The use of 3D computer modeling in the process is something I enjoy and find very valuable in vetting ideas before the costly process of building them for real.

Nancy was trained in historic preservation and spent several years managing housing rehabilitation projects. Primarily a mom, she has researched, specified, and ordered most (if not all) of the interior finish elements for our home. She has a passion for modern design and green products and is dedicated to creating a minimal, casual space for our family.

Our children’s comments: Our 6 year old says “why are we building a new home? Our house is perfect.” She also commented upon seeing our physical chipboard model that “we might be cold in the new house, because there are so many holes in it”.  However,  our 4 year old says that we need a new house whenever she notices some imperfection in our current turn-of-the century home. They have been troopers though, sacrificing a winter of skiing and weekend outings, and instead collecting nails on the job site.
